Monotype is a wonderful way for the “print curious” to enter the world of Printmaking Monotypes are often characterized by their painterly and gestural marks and rich atmospheric textures and tones. It is a media that is just as much fun for the true beginner as it is for the experienced printmaker. This way of working can happen very quickly and be spontaneous but also can have meditative moments for the artist that likes to take their time.

This workshop will introduce students to the basics of monotype printing using our Vandercook Press. Students will discover ways to create unique prints using various techniques and experience the magic that happens when ink transfers to paper.  There are so many ways of working with printers ink on a plate and we will explore as many as we can in this three hour workshop!

If you don’t want to get dirty, please bring gloves and an apron or smock. You can also bring some sketches or photos as inspiration. All other materials will be provided by the Co-op.

This workshop is intended for adults 18+.
Instructed by Jenni Freidman.
